Testimonials

Here is what the visitors of our website and the buyers of the books Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1, Vol 2 and Vol 3 have to say…

“I cherished music as a child, more like a gift of my culture and family. Despite this, I could not follow it as a Sadhana how I would have liked it due to life circumstances. Couple of decades later, in my 30s music found me again, more like grace from above, in the form of learning Flute. That is when I got recommended this website by my flute-initiator mentor and friend to study Indian Raagas.
What I have to say is: Mother Goddess Saraswati blesses you in many forms, some times through websites and books like Tanarang series. In today’s world, where there is dearth of in-person teachings due to job and hectic life and that of purity of teachings which is located dispersed, if not at a threat; I believe what Ringe family has gifted to the world is beyond words! Many gratitudes and best wishes to the Ringe family!

“Namaste! I want to say that when I downloaded the audio files of Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen and opened the folder it felt as though ‘main kisi sone ka bhandar khol raha hun!‘.

I am so thankful for Guruji’s effort. So glad that I got the books and recordings from you. It is just the largesse of the Guru that he chose to share it with next generation. I listen to them every day. I wanted to let you know!”

Hello, I just wanted to send a note to thank you for creating such a wonderful and much needed website for classical music lovers like me to learn about Ragas and Bandishen. Many of us may not have the training and lack the deep knowledge about each Raga, so your website is a blessing for us.

Please keep up the good work! Warm Regards!

“I have inherited love for Hindustani Classical Music. I am 53 years old now and in childhood and student life days the priorities were different. The courage to follow the passion was missing and that made me an Engineer & Financial Analyst as well. However deep in my heart while working in Corporate Sector at Mumbai and always thinking about financial profit & loss; the flame to study, understand and enjoy Hindustani Classical Music was still burning.

I am endeavouring to learn and play “Sarangi” instrument from last few years under the guidance of my Guruji/Ustad ji. In view of the above I was searching the internet to learn about different Hindustani Ragas in detail. I am proud to say that I got a treasure in the form of the web portal ‘www.Tanarang.com’ and the books, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2”.

Respected Aacharya Vishwanath Rao Ringe ji and his 2 sons honourable Shri Prakash Ringe Ji and Shri Vishwajeet Ringe ji have done a gigantic work by publishing these books and developing the website ‘Tanarang.com’. Acharya Tanarang and his sons are the torch bearers to keep alive our Vedic music and simplify it so that it reaches to the masses.

The books and the website explains the grammar (व्याकरण) of Hindustani Classical Music, concept of “Taal” (ताल) and explains about more than 60 Hindustani Raagas along with their Musical Notes (स्वर रचना), Aalap(आलाप), Tana (तान), and several Bandishen (बंदिशे) of each Raaga. For easy understanding the book is provided with Audio CD and the website is provided with audio recordings of the above. The website and the books which comprehensively explain Hindustani Classical Music are very useful to the students of Hindustani Classical Music as well as the Professionals. I am grateful to Ringe Family for publishing the books and developing the website ‘Tanarang.com’. Hindustani Music is part of our rich cultural heritage and well known ancient writer Bhartihari (भर्तृहरि) in his book “Nitishatakam” (नीतिशतकम्) had rightly stated that:-

साहित्यसङ्गीतकलाविहीनः साक्षात्पशुः पुच्छविषाणहीनः ।
तृणं न खादन्नपि जीवमानस्तद्भागधेयं परमं पशूनाम्॥”

“Different people think about Music differently. Some like Western, Country, Jazz, Soul, Dance Music and so on. But Hindustani Classical Music, for me is ultimate. It is like meditation. And upon that if we don’t mention about Aacharya Tanarang Ji, Classical Music will lose its charm. He devoted his whole life serving Classical Music and spread the magic among teachers, students, classical music lovers and his fans too. He composed about 1800 Bandish in about 200 Ragas. Wow! what a dedication and what a music spell he created…..you really feel amazed and wonder. I personally wish I could see him, meet him and do my Pranaam to that great personality. His works are also mentioned in Limca Book Of Records.

I really feel proud and honored to write about him and his books and they are nothing less than a precious treasure. That great person’s legacy is still alive in the form of his books and I salute Sir Prakash Ringe ji and Sir Vishwajeet Ringe ji. The books written by Acharya Tanarang Ji, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2“, contain so much information for Hindustan classical music lovers and it is a boon for them. Lots of love, best wishes always.”

“I love Hindustani Music very much. Though I have also studied it to some extent, I am not a performing artist. However whenever I listen to something, I used to get intrigued about the Raaga and its details like aaroh, avaroh and other details. On searching for any Raaga name on Google, many times tanarang.com was the site which was always at the top. I get ALL the required information about the Raaga! Every time it was a very happy experience to get all the information and details at one place. I did not have to visit any other site. I bookmarked the site and stopped using other websites.

The site is very neatly arranged. The Raag Suchi (Index) with about 120 ragas is very rich. Each Raaga has a table which provides complete information about Swaras inclusion, exclusion, Aaroh, Avroh, Mukhya Ang, Time, Jati etc. Further the speciality of the Raaga is explained. Similar Raagas and differences indeed are useful for a person to know the nuisances of classical music. Also for a new person this would definitely be motivating to understand more about other similar ragas. Again this site is one stop shop! You will find everything here.

More important is the Bandish rendering!! Acharyaji has taken painstaking efforts to compose and provide music to minimum 6 to maximum over 20 bandish per Raaga!! That too of different types – Bada Khyal, Chota Khyal, Sadra, Tarana etc in various laya and taal. About 1500 bandish for sure!! What a huge contribution to Indian Classical Music! Many many thanks (pranam) to him!

Not to forget the contribution of family members!! They have come up with this site. All data neatly arranged and easily searchable and that too in Hindi as well as English to make it usable not only in Bharat but also the entire world!!! Prakash Ringe ji has sung all the bandish and uploaded the same! The sargam helps anyone to understand the chalan of the Raaga. All this is for FREE!! What can you ask for more!! I was heavily impressed by the site! When I got to know about the books, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” (with CD included), I immediately purchased those. It’s a real treasure that would be with me throughout my life!

A real BIG THANK YOU to Acharya Tanarang and Ringe family!!”

“The website tanarang.com, is a ready to use dictionary of music. Any doubt, anytime, anywhere solution, on usage of Swar, Chalan, Rasa of any Raag. I am using the service of this website, since 2016. There is explanation of the Raag in words and also there is explanation through actual singing. Acharya Ji’s books, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” are guide to students of all level. It has detailed explanation of each Raaga, their Notations, Bandishen, Sargams etc. These books come with recorded Bandishen for audio help. These books gave me the confidence that I can also try playing the flute.”

“I am a classical Tabla Player and at the same time I try to understand the basics of Hindustani Classical Music in order to work on studying the scientific effect of music on mind and publishing the results in International journals of repute. So I have to understand classical music as thoroughly as possible.

The two books written by Acharya Tanarang namely “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” are un-parallel in the sense of helping the beginners to learn independently. The different ‘Bandishen’ sung very lucidly gives an additional advantage to them. Specially the different types of ‘Bandishen’ starting from different ‘Matras’ having different lyrics rich enough in the contents are also valuable to the experts.

I will be happy if somehow you can publish my token of appreciation in any form as you like. Once again I end with paying my homage to ‘Guru’. With love..”

“I am a retired professor of electrical and electronics engineering, seriously learning and practicing sitar since my school days. I became disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez in the year 1995. I am not a professional performing artiste. But I have an unending passion to learn the nuances of Hindustani music. In pursuit of this, when I was searching over the internet, I found the website Tanarang, which is dedicated to preserve and propagate the musical creations of Acharya Vishwanath Rao Ringe ‘Tanarang’. I found this website very well organized, and the compositions created by Acharya Tanarang Ji of the highest order in terms of musical quality. Then I decided to purchase two books written by Acharya Ji, namely “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” along with the audio DVD containing recordings of all his compositions.

These books are also very well produced in terms of quality of printing, binding, organization and layout. A very valuable feature of these volumes is sample aalap and taans given under each raaga. For a student of Hindustani music, understanding the ragaanga of a raaga is very important. These volumes written by Acharya Ji help very much in imparting this knowledge to the student. I frequently refer to the volumes written by Acharya Ji to learn his sargams and compositions to adapt them for playing on sitar.

In addition to this, I also found the Raaga Tutorials YouTube channel, very valuable, in which Acharya Ji’s son and disciple Shri Vishwajeet Ringe explains swarasanchaara of different raagas with examples and compositions taken from Acharya’s creations. I frequently view this channel to refresh and update my knowledge.
It is heartening to note that in 2020, the disciples and admirers of Acharya Ji are celebrating his 100th Birth Anniversary. Efforts taken to preserve and propagate his musical creations will definitely go a long way to ensure that posterity will remember him as a vagyekaar of the highest order.”

“Today must be my luckiest day when I was searching for a particular Raag, and internet suggested the website www.tanarang.com. I visited the website and found out about the huge collection of Raagas along with their comprehensive details. Yet at next level for all Raagas there are number of Bandishen sung by Shri Prakash Vishwanath Ringe. To me this is like learning directly from the masters at any convenient time. To my surprise Ringe family has not put any restriction for the music lovers to access such a sea of Hindustani Classical Music as there is no charge for it.

Whilst I admire vocalists like Dr Pandit Gokulotsavji Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi, Pandit M. Venkatesh Kumar, Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Ustad Amir Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, etc., but I felt speechless for such a tremendous efforts by this family. I believe we have only music to impress God and this family has done it extremely well.

I pray to all music lovers to provide your reviews for their fantastic efforts and make all Hindustani Classical Music lovers aware for their work so that this can encourage billions around the globe. God bless you all and looking forward to receive my books. Jay Shree Krishna.”

“Respected Prakash Ringe Ji and the rest of Tanarang team,
I consider myself lucky to have discovered your website on which you have so diligently placed your father Acharya Tanarang Ji’s knowledge for the rest of the world to learn and get inspired by. There is no words to express!

I live in a big city (Mumbai) and am a hobbyist learning Hindustani vocals since about 1.5 years and I have been finding your website a very useful resource. It is helping me sharpen my base on the individual Ragas and I especially find myself benefiting from the illustrative combinations and sargam at the end as a natural progression from having learnt the Aaroh and Avaroh.

The preview of the book of Bandishen’s looks exciting and promises to be a great supplement! The passages by Acharya Tanarang ji, offering an Introduction to Hindustani music principles as well as mool tan’s to work on have been an invaluable reference.

Thank you and please keep the wonderful spirit of spreading music and the knowledge of music going.”

-D.Anand, Mumbai

“WOW, What a book!!!
The audio CD accompanying it is a masterpiece. Pandit Prakash Vishwanath Ringe has organised these compositions with Herculean effort and has taken this book on Hindustani Classical Music to a whole new level. This book will inspire millions worldwide to take up classical singing both as a profession and a hobby.”

“Thank you for all your work and your gift of this website. Your website a delight. It is easy to use, and the Glossary has been particularly helpful. I especially appreciate the clear explanation of notation, in the glossary, under “Swar or Note.” Swar notation can be very confusing for musicians trained in western classical music, but your notation is explained perfectly. I’ve used other websites, but I always end up back at yours. Because the concepts in Indian classical music are so different from the ideas in western music, finding your well organized and user friendly website was a turning point in my being able to process the basic concepts. Thank you very, very much.”

“Thank you for all the amazing work you have done on this website! I am blessed to have access to such a great resource. It is a single stop for me anytime I want to refer to detail of any Raag or Bandish. Both the books, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” are also very well organized and provide complete reference to Hindustani Classical Music. In addition, you are also doing a great job publishing video tutorials on your Raaga Tutorials YouTube channel. I am pursuing my Hindustani Classical Music journey by playing Bansuri, and I have really gained a lot from this treasure. Many Thanks.”

– Dhaval Parikh, Raleigh, NC, USA

“I received both the books, “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” and the CD in good condition. It’s a wonderful resource, which reflects a very long sustaining effort, interest and insight of the creator. Congratulations for producing this series of two volumes and the CD.”

– Prof. R. K. Joshi, IIT Bombay, India

“The books “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” have been organized in a very systematic manner to guide one to practice different elements such as Alap, Taans, Sargams and Laya associated with different compositions on different Ragas. I have started to read the books, listen and practice some of the compositions with my own electronic tanpura and tabla. The rich melodic content of the compositions helps understand finer aspects of the associated Raga. The book “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” and “Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 2” and the website are a rich source of knowledge on Hindustani Classical Music. All I can tell you is how blessed I feel to have the opportunity to have the compositions of Acharya Tanarang.”

Surath Rath, Huston, TX, USA

Nice work done by Prakash Ji and Vishwajeet Ji. These are one of the best books I have seen especially for the beginners and mid level Hindustani Classical Music learners. Excellent work shown in this book. Books are very well organized. Keep doing such good work.”

– Ratnakar Deshpande

“Acharya Tanarang ki Bandishen Vol 1” is an excellent book on Hindustani music of North India. The information contained in the book is a wonderful resource to every classical singer. This book is one of the greatest references that I have ever used. This book and companion CD are a great resource for those who want to sing or teach. I would recommend this book to anyone.”
