This Raag is also known as Saalag Varali Todi. This Raag was brought from Carnatic Music into Hindustani Music with some changes. But this Raag could not gain much popularity.
This Raag is a combination of Raag Todi in Poorvang and Raag Aheer Bhairav in Uttarang. Like Raag Todi, Komal Gandhar of this Raag leans toward Komal Rishabh. Pancham is an important resting note. Dhaivat is little elongated but is not used as a resting note. In Uttrang Nishad is often skipped while ascending towards Shadj, for example – P D n D S’; D n D S’; However, the direct, P D n S’ or P D n ; D n S’ can very well be rendered. In Avroh, P g r g r S ; or P r g r S; can be taken.
This Raag is pretty straightforward, but one should be very careful while rendering as the notes are tough to master. This Raag creates a heavy atmosphere and can be expanded in all the three octaves. Following combinations are illustrative of the Raag:
