Raag Surdasi Malhar is also known as Raag Sur Malhar. This is a combination of Sarang Ang and Malhar Ang. In Aaroh, Sarang Ang is shown with S R m P N S’ and Malhar Ang is rendered with m R P ; m P n N S’. In Avroh, Dhaivat is a very prominent note, which separates it from Sarang Ang like: S’ n D P ; m R P ; m D P ; n D P ; m R ,N S.
This is a Uttarang Pradhan Raag. The general movement of this Raag is around Tar Shadj (S’).
Being a seasonal melody for the rains, the compositions are dominated by description of cloud-thunder and lightening. In comparison to other Malhar forms, this Raag is less deep (less Gambheer).
