Raag Description: This Raag is a form of Malkauns, which uses Shuddha Gandhar in Aaroh and Komal Gandhar in Avroh. This Raag is a combination of Raag Jog in Poorvang and Raag Malkauns in Uttarang. It is a straightforward Raag and can be expanded in all the octaves. This Raag has a deep and soothing effect on the audience. Illustrative combinations are:

Despite being a very melodious Raag it has not gained much popularity yet. Very few maestros have sung this Raag, one of them being, Ustad Salamat Ali & Nazakat Ali Khan of Sham Chaurasia Gharana. Acharya Tanarang has followed this flavor of Mohankauns and composed various bandishen.
Originally, Pt. Ravi Shankar, created this Raag as a homage to Mahatma Gandhi. The Aaroh and Avroh being S G m d n S' - S' n d m G ; m R G m G S;. Sometimes, he used Gandhar Komal as a Kan swar very sparingly. Shuddha Rishabh is used in Aaroh in special manner like this: S G m ; m G R G m ; G S; or sometimes S G m ; m R G m ; S;
